Lawyers Specializing in Debt NegotiationLaw firms specializing in individual representation when dealing with lenders cover a wide spectrum of services. Certification in one particular area of the law is not required, but does indicate that lawyer specializing in debt negotiation is highly competent. Most often, to become a certified specialist, both written and oral examinations (administered by the state bar) must be passed, and the lawyer must prove extensive experience both in and out of court dealing with consumer credit and debt laws. How much do they charge? The maximum attorney fee allowable is not regulated per se, but in practice, fees are limited by many state bar rules. For example, lawyers may not bill clients for routine office services (copies, travel time, etc.) at the normally hourly rate. Additionally, all fees must be disclosed in writing before accepting employment. This requirement makes comparisons of several attorneys easy. More importantly, comparison of several attorneys will reveal important differences in expected final results. Simply put, all lawyers (even those specializing in consumer law) are not equally talented or committed in the course of debt negotiations. |
